As artist with a backdrop in Philosophy studies I am interested in categorization systems, memory and perception. My recent body of work is concerned primarily with childhood prototypes, intersecting the personal and collective memory. Typical learning behavior of children is for example characterized by establishing main categories that help organize information and perception. Such as THE TREE, THE HOUSE, THE FOX. Prototypes in language theory do not refer to natural essences, but are fluid and flexible concepts that are open for transformation. Hereby I am interested in how certain prototype childhood concepts form a gravitational scheme in the collective memory formed by patterns and frequency. Hereby forming an active participant in the formation of perception in daily experience. In the creation of works such as Remember the Fall (swingset) and Play the Fox, I explore how these prototypes can function to open up relational feelings of beloning/disconnect, grief/joy, play, care and healing. Through a dialogue of ceramics, wood, and steel, I create sculpural installations that move between past and present, the archaic and ephemeral, eery and playful.
